In this episode of Crushing It, host Jonathan Trimble speaks with J.J. Costigan, a former FBI agent whose career spans federal law enforcement, critical infrastructure protection, and security leadership for some of the world’s most high-profile golf tournaments. J.J. shares what it takes to manage risk in environments where thousands of people, elite athletes, and global attention converge—and where preparation is everything.

Drawing on his experience at events like Augusta National and LIV Golf tournaments, J.J. explains how principles learned in the FBI—such as layered defenses, clear communication, and disciplined planning—translate directly to large-scale event security. What appears effortless to spectators is, in reality, a complex operation designed to identify risks early and prevent disruptions before they occur.

Through real-world stories involving evolving threats, medical emergencies, and unexpected disruptions, J.J. highlights the importance of flexibility, training, and leadership support. His insights offer valuable lessons for business leaders navigating uncertainty: resilience is built through preparation, coordination, and calm decision-making long before a crisis ever unfolds.
